Low Carbon Vehicle Zone

Creating transport for the future

This Zone comprises of three sites which are our primary locations for automotive, low carbon vehicles, advanced manufacturing and advanced engineering sectors.

The three sites are in the Low Carbon Vehicle Zone at Sunderland

All three sites are within easy reach of the North East’s urban centres and are located  west of the A19, linking to the A1. They’re adjacent to the Nissan Motor manufacturing plant with excellent transport links and an established supply chain.

A significant number of major international and UK vehicle sector companies are here, and benefit from the close proximity of suppliers who support transportation, logistics and handling. Every business settling here is supported by excellent infrastructure and nearby transport hubs at the Ports of Tyne and Sunderland, Newcastle International Airport, Newcastle Central and Sunderland train stations.

The workforce offered by the North East, is highly skilled. It starts with our universities which specialise in the automotive sector; for example, the University of Sunderland’s Institute for Automotive and Manufacturing Advanced Practice (AMAP) is internationally recognised in low-carbon vehicle technology, and Gateshead College’s Skills Academy for Sustainable Manufacturing and Innovation (SASMI) is the UK’s first education centre dedicated to the clean technologies sector and is located adjacent to the site.
