Port of Tyne and North Bank of Tyne Zone

A Coastal Hub

This Zone is a cluster of three sites which are the primary locations for the offshore, subsea and energy sectors.

These sites comprise of around 70 hectares. The North East is designated as one of only six Centres for Offshore, Wind and Renewable Engineering areas (CORE).

The three sites of the Coastal Hub

All three sites boast easy access to the North Sea via the Port of Tyne, a major deep-sea port. The sites also provide heavy load facilities as well as an overhead crane capacity which can mobilise large, abnormal loads.

The area has a world-leading supply chain connected to the offshore and renewables industry, plus a long established tradition of heavy engineering and vast experience in the oil and gas industry.

The workforce offered by the North East, is highly skilled. It starts with our universities which specialise in the engineering and marine sector; for example, Centre for Renewable Energy from Land (CREEL) is based at Newcastle University, and the National Centre for Subsea and Offshore Engineering is led by Newcastle University.

The River Tyne itself transports large installation vessels, from some of the biggest industry operators in the world, into and out of these.
