Fit for the future: North East next to unveil Local Industrial Strategy

The North East is one of the regions chosen by government today to develop a Local Industrial Strategy to increase jobs and growth as part of the modern Industrial Strategy – the government’s plan to build a Britain fit for the future.

Government is investing almost £1 billion into the modern Industrial Strategy, which is designed to drive innovation across the UK.

Helen Golightly, chief executive of the North East LEP, said: “This is fantastic news for the North East and testament to the pioneering work being carried out here to embed innovation across the region to drive economic growth.  Industry, education and public services will link ideas, people, infrastructure and business to mobilise opportunities to improve the productivity of the North East.”

“We will build on the strong foundations of the North East Strategic Economic Plan to create 100,000 more and better jobs and the world class science and research already happening here in the North East.”
