First phase of new employment site in City centre (on the former Vaux site).
This project will create the necessary infrastructure to enable the first phase of the development of this city centre site. When fully developed the site will include office, retail, residential and leisure areas.
Central to the plans for phase one is a 60,000 sq ft office building at the heart of the 5.5 hectare site, which will look out on to the Keel Line. There will be 19 separate buildings or blocks built over a number of years to create a flagship development for living, working and relaxing.
The project has also benefited from earlier investment in highways improvements adjacent to the site, with funds provided from the North East Investment Fund to the value of £2.5m. This not only assists with access to the whole of the development site but to the wider Central Business District of Sunderland as it takes forwards its economic development objectives.
In 2020 the Vaux site was rebranded by the City Council and forms part of the wider Riverside Sunderland Masterplan that can be viewed here : https://www.riversidesunderland.com/
